The first portable personal computer or PC that i could remember is notebook, or laptop as we called it here in the land of One (One Malaysia, One-Stop Centre, One-Tan-Ho, etc).
Nowadays, things just get smaller. Now we have netbook, simply define as a smaller version of notebook.
Along the way, technology shrinks whatever hardware in its path down to a point where research was undertaken, showing that the trend of down-sizing will be acceptable by the market ONLY up, or down in this case, to a point. Get any smaller & it will be just as unusable as your oversize jeans (good news eh, ladies~).
Imagine a mobile-phone as small as your thumb. With technology, it can be done but will you find it comfortable to listen & talk to at the same time or type an SMS with? Eveything has it's limit.
From where i see it now, our market has matured enough to justify the optimum size range. For manufacturers, the amount of order from suppliers are your best market indicator.
With that, introducing Sony Vaio UX. An ultra-portable, micro PC. Looks CooL (as the tech junkies say it) doesn't it?Rather than being too detail with its specifications & introducing more technical jargons (aside from my welcoming page title), lets keep this simple & easy to digest.
1. It's a small computer, or laptop, or netbook (Ughh~!) that you can carry anywhere in your oversize jeans' pocket (weighing at half a kilogram, just buckle up your belt, just in case).
2. You can access to internet while on the move.
3. You can take picture with its built-in camera while on the move.
4. You can listen to music while on the move.
5. You can watch movie while on the move (Ok, that's just too much. Pay attention to the road please).
We always like to able to do things on the move. So there you go. The only downside for me is, it is NOT a mobile-phone. (Gosh, just look at my expectation!) Still, it can do anything that your personal computer can, with the convenience of carrying it around (If you find it convenient carrying an RM7,588* gadget around).
(*Please double check the price with your nearest local dealer. Ughh~!)
But despite of that, i love this CooL gadget! I don't think i'll be needing it for the time being but i would love to have one (Yeah, i use the word 'ONE')!
Innovation, an effort of adopting technology that we don't actually NEED in our everyday life, up to a point where we are so dependent on it that it has become a NEEDS.
What do you think?
Just look at my mobile-phone. I need it, not just because of making calls, especially under emergency, but also having the accessibility to search for important information via the internet in order to make a referred, dependable, split second decision (Shopping price reference?).
Back to the size issue, i used my smaller-than-Sony-Vaio-UX mobile-phone for occasional internet surfing. Will the micro-size PC era thrive over the down-sizing limit that is judge by our maket?
What do you think?
